WIMPOLE GO TRI DUATHLON – 2016 – Click here for the results
A blustery but warm early evening saw competitors line up for the first multi-sport event to be put on in the grounds of a National Trust property. It was also the first time we had put on an event and so we were a little apprehensive as the start time approached. We had wanted to make this inaugural GO TRI as enjoyable and supportive as possible, giving everyone a flavour of what it’s like to take part in a multi-sport event. We hope we succeeded.
We’d like to thank all the competitors for taking part – the enthusiasm and determination from everyone was plain to see and we loved cheering and encouraging you all on. So a big well done to everyone but particularly to those of you who were taking part in your first duathlon. We hope you feel suitably proud of yourselves and that perhaps you’ll give this kind of racing another go soon.
To put on an event takes quite a bit of organisation and support. Much of this comes from within the club, so many thanks to those of you who took time out to help set up and marshal – very much appreciated. However, events also rely on external support and we were lucky enough to have that in spades. So, we’d like to thank John Harris and the National Trust (www.nationaltrust.org.uk/wimpole-estate) for encouraging and allowing us to put on the event in such a beautiful setting, Carol McDonald from Triathlon England (www.triathlonengland.org) for her support and encouragement, Royston Runners (www.roystonrunners.co.uk) for their generosity in offering us the use of their equipment (we must have been the best signed GO TRI in the country) and to Royston Scaffolding (www.roystonscaffolding.com ) who supplied us with some of their scaffolding to help make the transition area a truly professional affair.
We aim to try and host this event next year so we hope to see you all again then. Once again, many thanks to all and take care.
